February Writing Prompt Series: Knee-high Socks

I never get tired of that sight. She’s so cute with her hair pulled up into a messy ponytail, dancing around the kitchen in a baby pink tank top, matching lacy panties, and knee-high socks. She’s dancing around, using a wooden spoon as a microphone as 90’s pop blasts from the speaker on her phone. It melts my heart.

She didn’t hear me come in, so I can take this in for a few more seconds before she realizes I’m standing here. She turns away from me, setting her wooden spoon on the counter before stirring something in the pot on the stove. It smells delicious, whatever it is.

When she turns back around, she catches me watching her with the biggest smile on my face.

“Oh,” she giggles. “I didn’t realize you were home already. This is mostly done, I just want it to marinate for a few more minutes.”

Her smile is warm and inviting when she runs over to give me a quick kiss. Her gentle demeaner and bubbly personality contrast me perfectly. It’s cliché, but we complete each other, the yin and yang. How did I get to be so lucky?

She tries to pull away and skip back into the kitchen. The fire she’s stirred in my heart and other places makes me pull her back, needing to touch her longer. She giggles when I pull her tight.
